A 42-year-old West Coast Berbice man has died two days after the car he was driving collided head-on with another vehicle while reportedly attempting to overtake a line of traffic along the No. 22 Public Road. Dead is Carlton Pluck of No. 8 Village, West Coast Berbice. Police said the crash occurred at about 11:00 hrs on Sunday, August 2, involving motorcars PJJ 94 and PAP 2877. According to preliminary investigations, Pluck was driving east along the northern carriageway at an alleged fast rate of speed when, while negotiating a right-hand bend, he reportedly attempted to overtake a line of vehicles. In doing so, his vehicle collided head-on with motorcar PAP 2877, which was travelling west along the southern carriageway. The second vehicle was being driven by Andre Stephen, 33, of Bermine Scheme, New Amsterdam. Also in the vehicle were Sean Cobagan, 37, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, and Delon Codogan, 33, also of New Amsterdam. The impact left both vehicles extensively damaged, with all four men sustaining injuries. Pluck was initially taken to the Bath Regional Hospital before being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he remained unconscious while receiving treatment for severe head injuries. Police said he succumbed to his injuries at about 16:30 hrs on Tuesday. Stephen was treated at the Bath Regional Hospital and later discharged, while Cobagan was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical attention. Codogan, who sustained multiple injuries, remains under observation. Police said their conditions are stable. A breathalyzer test conducted on Stephen recorded a reading of 17 micrograms. Pluck’s body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigations into the fatal crash.
