Executive Director of the Amerindian Peoples Association (APA) Jean La Rose says the organisation has not met with the Santa Rosa Village Council regarding the decision not to approve Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed’s visit to the community, and the alleged move to proceed with the visit despite the decision. Since the APA has not met with the Santa Rosa Village Council, La Rose told Ignite News that the organisation does not currently have a position on the matter. Santa Rosa Toshao Raul Hendricks explained that President Dr Irfaan Ali had received prior approval to visit the community on the same day Mohamed requested permission. He said he suggested to Mohamed’s representative, Opposition MP Deon La Cruz, that the visit be rescheduled for another day. Hendricks said he views Mohamed’s action as disrespectful to the Village Council as it is in contravention of the Amerindian Act of 2006.
