Guyana's recurve archers set for daunting knockout tests in Santo Domingo

Guyana’s recurve archers Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo face formidable knockout fixtures at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games after battling through punishing conditions in Santo Domingo. Competing in sweltering heat and high humidity during Friday’s qualification rounds, both athletes successfully navigated their way into the Round of 32 of the individual recurve events. Permaul, who qualified as the 25th seed in the men’s draw, will face Puerto Rico’s eighth-seeded Adrian Muñoz Rodríguez for a place in the last 16. Meanwhile, Boodhoo has been handed a monumental test in the women’s competition. Seeded 29th, she is slated to take on Mexico’s Ana Paula Vázquez Flores, the tournament’s fourth seed and the current world number six. Both elimination matches will be contested strictly under the World Archery Olympic set system, a high-pressure format where the first competitor to reach six set points secures the victory and advances to the next phase. Despite the steep challenge awaiting them on the range, the Guyanese camp remains resolute.
