HGP NIGHTLY NEWS- Pacific, Auro Commit US$1 Billion to Upgrade GPL Transmission Network Pacific has partnered with Auro to invest US$1 billion in upgrading the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) transmission network, marking one of the largest private investments ever made in the country’s electricity sector. The investment is also historic, representing the first time a Guyanese company has committed an investment of this magnitude to the nation’s power infrastructure, highlighting the growing role of local private enterprise in Guyana’s development. The project will focus on modernizing GPL’s electricity transmission system through the upgrade of existing substations and transmission lines. The improvements are expected to strengthen the national grid by enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and stability of electricity supply across the country. The investment comes at a time when Guyana’s demand for electricity is rising rapidly, driven by significant residential, commercial, and industrial growth. Once completed, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to expand the capacity of the national grid, ease transmission constraints, and improve the delivery of electricity to consumers nationwide. According to a press release, the initiative is expected to play a critical role in meeting Guyana’s long-term energy needs while accelerating the modernization of the country’s power transmission system, laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient, and future-ready electricity network.
