A house at Lot 740 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, was destroyed by fire early Monday morning in what fire officials believe was a deliberate act. The three-bedroom wooden and concrete house is owned by Donna Juno, who is currently working offshore. A relative, Annie Morris, who lives nearby, told reporters that she was awakened at around 3:30 hours by Juno’s daughter, Donnette, who alerted her that the house was on fire. Morris said when she arrived at the scene, firefighters from the New Amsterdam Fire Station, police officers and Guyana Power and Light personnel were already present. She also reported that the house appeared to have been ransacked, with several items allegedly removed from the premises. “When I went upstairs, it was ransacked. Her bedroom, second room, and kitchen ransacked. She had some alcohol that was missing. Things from her fridge, some candies were also missing,” Morris said. Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald confirmed that the fire was maliciously set. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
