CAC Games 2026: Guyana names 55-member squad for centennial event in Santo Domingo

The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has confirmed a 55-member delegation to compete at the 25th Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The multi-sport event, which officially opens on July 24, holds historic significance this year as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Games, bringing together top athletes from across the region. Speaking at a pre-departure press briefing, GOA president Godfrey Munroe and secretary general Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon challenged the athletes to compete with pride, determination, and respect. Munroe commended the squad’s dedication and sacrifice during their preparations, expressing confidence that they will proudly uphold the nation’s sporting reputation on the regional stage. Persaud-McKinnon urged the delegation to support one another across all disciplines and to embrace the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect, reminding them that every performance carries the hopes of the nation. GOA treasurer Garfield Wiltshire was also in attendance to extend his backing to the departing team. The delegation will be led by Chef de Mission Kenisha Headley and assistant Chef de Mission Roger Callender. Athlete welfare and medical support will be overseen by physiotherapists Rocala Williams and Elisabeth Kishundat. In a concluding statement, the GOA issued a rallying cry to Guyanese citizens at home and in the diaspora to support the team’s pursuit of regional excellence, whilst extending gratitude to the national federations, coaches, sponsors, partners, and families for their unwavering backing.
