The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) is urging the Government to reconsider plans for a state-owned bottled water facility, costing $496.3 million, to be operated by Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI). The GMSA warns that the proposed investment could place the State in direct competition with local manufacturers that have already invested heavily in the industry. The Association’s President Rafeek Khan on Wednesday said the GMSA supports the Government’s goal of making bottled water more affordable but is urging further engagement with manufacturers, saying businesses need greater clarity on how the proposed initiative will operate and how it will impact companies that have already invested heavily in the sector.
