The initiative targets Guyanese aged 18 and older who are interested in "pork knocking", a traditional form of small-scale mining that relies on manual labour and basic equipment to search for gold. Registration is being held from August 4 to 5 at the Matthews Ridge Centre Ground, where eligible applicants can register free of charge. Unlike conventional mining operations that require expensive equipment and significant capital investment, the punter block programme permits miners to work using only hand-held tools such as metal detectors, pickaxes, spades, shovels, sieves and battels.
