Eccles man jailed for 18 months after fake firearm licence scheme

David Singh, a 41-year-old taxi driver of Eccles New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment after he was involved in a fake firearm licence scheme. In a release issued on Thursday, Police Headquarters said the man was arrested on Sunday, July 26, 2026, and charged on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. Previously, Police reported that a 35-year-old contractor and his 30-year-old brother, an operator, were reportedly approached by Singh, who claimed he could help them secure firearm licences. During the process, the brothers allegedly paid a total of $2.6 million. Police said they later received documents purporting to be approvals for firearm licences. However, investigators said the documents were subsequently examined and determined to be fraudulent.
