Five MV Barima victims still unidentified

Five bodies recovered from the MV Barima tragedy which claimed the lives of dozens of persons remains unidentified. The bodies include one female and four males. The Ministry of Health is therefore appealing with families of persons still missing following the tragedy to visit the Suddie Mortuary to help identify the bodies. “The identification of these victims is essential to ensuring that they are returned to their loved ones with dignity and afforded a respectful and proper burial,” the Ministry said in a statement on Monday. Relatives seeking information or assistance can contact the Suddie Mortuary on 650-8564 or the Office of the Regional Health Officer on 685-7746 or 685-7745. The Ministry of Health said it remains committed to providing every possible support as they navigate their loss. Prime Minister Phillips on Monday told the National Assembly that there have been 76 survivors rescued after the MV Barima sank while en route to Port Kaituma on Saturday, July 18. Tragically, however, the bodies of 73 persons who passed away have been recovered. Thirty persons are still deemed missing.
