Zion Hickerson mounted a spirited campaign at the USTA L7 August Championships in Flushing, New York, surging through to the semi-finals of the Boys’ U12 division. The youngster displayed impressive composure throughout the group stage, sweeping through his pool with three straight victories. The headline performance of his preliminary run came in a composed victory over number three seed William Lai, sealing his place in the last four. Hickerson was pushed to the absolute wire in a high-octane semi-final clash against the big-hitting Siyan Ni. After falling behind 2-0 early on, Hickerson engineered a dramatic fightback, stringing together three consecutive games to turn the tide. Ni answered back to level at 3-3 before holding his nerve to claim the decisive break and close out a hard-fought 5-3 victory. Despite the narrow defeat, the run in New York provides crucial match sharpness as Hickerson steps up his preparations for the international stage. The Flushing event served as a key tune-up for the upcoming Allin by Tsonga Ten-Pro tournament, hosted at former world number five Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s academy in Nice, France, from 10 to 16 August. Hickerson is currently back on court fine-tuning his game alongside childhood coach Shelly Daly at Prospect Park, New York, as the final countdown to France begins. His burgeoning career continues to draw strong commercial backing, supported by a wide corporate network including Enet, ACADO, Beacon Cafe, Marketing Plus Agencies, Corum Restaurant Group, Mike’s Pharmacy, Modern Optical, Jai Signs, Guy Oil, Guywill Shipping, C&L Construction, Demerara Mutual, BBS Coatings, Ramchand Auto Spares, Ruff Ltd, Caribbean Container Inc., Tri-Stone Auto Sales, Hamson, GT Eats, 4R, BK, Shi-Oil, FireSide, Smalta, and Toucan Industries.
