Delete Your Account and Data

This applies to both this website and the NewsFlash! Guyana mobile app — they share one account, so deleting it covers both.

Request deletion

Email contact@newsflashgy.com from the address you signed in with, or use our contact form. Send it from the account address if you can — it is how we confirm the request is yours. If you cannot, tell us the address on the account and we will verify another way before deleting anything.

We action requests within 30 days and confirm by email when it is done.

What gets deleted

• Your account and sign-in record
• Your display name, email address and profile photo
• Comments you have written
• Articles you have bookmarked, and sources you follow
• Votes and reactions recorded against your account
• Messages you sent to the in-app assistant, and any feedback
• The notification token for your device

What we cannot remove, and why

• Poll tallies. A poll stores only a running count with no account identifier attached, so there is nothing in it that can be traced back to you — and nothing to pull out.
• Newsletter subscriptions are held separately from your account, because you do not need an account to subscribe. Use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or ask us and we will remove you from both.
• Published articles. These are not yours or ours — they belong to the outlets that reported them.

Deleting some of your data, without closing your account

You may not need to go this far. You can delete your own comments at any time, on this website and in the app, and remove bookmarks and followed sources the same way you added them. Signing out stops any further collection. Reading has never required an account.

You can also ask us to delete specific data and keep your account — for example every comment you have written, or your assistant conversations — using the same email address or contact form above. Say what you want removed; we do not need you to close the account to honour it.

Retention

Much of this expires on its own. Articles and everything attached to them — comments, bookmarks, votes and reactions — are deleted 30 days after an article is published, when the article itself is removed. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
