Family and friends gathered in Wakenaam on Thursday to bid a final farewell to 11-year-old Ronaldo Poon, one of the victims of the MV Barima tragedy. His funeral is among the first to be held out of the dozens of victims. Poon was travelling to Port Kaituma, Region One, to spend the August holiday with his grandmother. He was set to begin Grade Six at Sans Souci Primary School, where he had been preparing for the National Grade Six Assessment. Poon was described as a boy with a big heart. He was fondly remembered for being caring and attentive to the needs of those around him. “He was so loving and kind and friendly to everybody. “He was the one to show me love and comfort me… If I was sick, he would come to my bed, he would ask if I want water, tablet, or anything,” his mother, Lovisa Poon, told News Room on Wednesday morning. Ronaldo was Lovisa’s only son. He had three sisters.
