President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Sunday afternoon met with relatives of those still missing following the MV Barima tragedy to provide an update on an ongoing operation at sea. Family members were shown live footage and informed that search efforts would continue through Sunday night into Monday. Relatives raised the possibility of designating the site as a memorial, should their loved ones not be recovered. President Ali assured them that any decision on the matter would depend on the wishes of affected families, and that the Government would honour and respect their decision.
