Public consultations on model villages scheduled in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

The government will commence a series of public consultations on the development of Model Villages, engaging residents in several communities in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five and Six beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026. The consultations are intended to provide residents with an opportunity to share their views, learn more about the Model Villages initiative, and participate in discussions on the proposed developments within their communities and will provide opportunities for direct engagements with President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The first round of consultations will be held in Region Three on Monday, August 3, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Leonora Secondary School. Meetings will continue throughout the day in Zeelugt, Tuschen, Goed Fortuin, Parfaite Harmonie and Pouderoyen, culminating with a presentation on the proposed new Pouderoyen Market at 6:30 p.m. Consultations will then move to Region Four (East Bank Demerara) on Thursday, August 6, with engagements scheduled for Kaneville, Grove and Diamond. Residents of Region Four (East Coast Demerara) will be engaged on Friday, August 7, through meetings in Melanie Damishana/Non Pariel, Mon Repos, Good Hope and Enmore. In Region Five, consultations are scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, in Bush Lot, Bath and Hopetown. The team will then travel to Region Six on Saturday, August 8, for consultations in Port Mourant, Rose Hall, Skeldon/Line Path and New Amsterdam. The final round of consultations will be held in Region Two on Monday, August 10, with meetings planned in Supenaam, Suddie, Charity and Anna Regina. Residents from the respective communities are encouraged to attend the consultations and contribute to shaping the future development of their villages. The consultations form part of the government’s broader Model Villages initiative, which seeks to create cleaner, greener, safer and more resilient communities through improved infrastructure, public amenities and enhanced community participation. The initiative builds on ongoing community transformation efforts already underway across the country, including the model neighbourhood concept being implemented in Georgetown, as well as continued investments in the rehabilitation of sidewalks, public spaces and other infrastructure to enhance the urban environment, in areas such as tiger bay, Waterloo street and surroundings.
