The Sports Seminar, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, concluded on Friday after two days of presentations, discussions and knowledge sharing focused on strengthening Guyana's sports sector through education. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission, in collaboration with Deakin University of Australia, the seminar was facilitated by the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League under the theme ‘Strengthening Sport in Guyana Through Education.’ More than 300 participants, including coaches, administrators, athletes, officials and representatives from indigenous communities, attended in person and virtually. The seminar featured sessions led by Professor Pamm Phillips and Professor Campbell Jamieson of Deakin University. The workshop covered key areas, including sport participation and development, governance, workforce development, sport tourism and leveraging major events, providing participants with an integrated approach to building capacity across the sports sector. The closing ceremony on Friday featured remarks from Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. and Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs, who both emphasised the importance of education, collaboration and continued investment in sport. Participants left the seminar equipped with new knowledge, tools and strategies to strengthen governance, coaching and athlete development. They also committed to applying what they learned within their respective disciplines while working collaboratively across sporting associations to further the growth and development of sport in Guyana.
