Well over 300 participants, both in-person and virtually, including representation from indigenous communities, were engaged in sessions on the opening day of the Sports Management Workshop, facilitated by the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League on Thursday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and National Sports Commission, the two-day seminar is being conducted by top ranking officials of Deakin University of Australia, Professor Pamm Phillips and Professor Campbell Jamieson. Delivering remarks at the opening ceremony were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr., Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs and ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League representative Jamie Stewart. The workshop is structured to guide participants through a progressive exploration of sport development and capacity building. The agenda moves from the broader sport ecosystem context, to structural and strategic considerations such as governance, through to key enabling mechanisms including the sport workforce, before concluding with applied outcomes related to sport tourism and leveraging events. This sequencing is intended to create a cohesive and integrated understanding of capacity building across the sport sector, highlighting the interconnected nature of these themes rather than approaching them as isolated or siloed concepts.
