A family of three is now left contemplating their next move after a fire destroyed the upper flat of their South Ruimveldt Park home on Thursday morning. The News Room understands that the fire started at approximately 08:30 hrs at the two-storey wooden and concrete house located at Sunflower Circle, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown. The upper flat of the house was completely destroyed while the lower flat sustained extensive water damage. The scene of the fire One of the occupants, Lennox Samuels, said he was preparing to leave for work when the fire started. “I was just leaving when my girlfriend shouted, ‘Fire in the house! “Whilst running in and I opened the door, I saw smoke coming from the room,” Samuels recalled. Samuels said he tried to save belongings but was forced to retreat because of the thick smoke and intense flames. “This is a fresh start for me… I don’t know where I’m going to be sleeping tonight because everything burn,” Samuels said. He estimates his losses to be millions of dollars. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
