CAC Games: Raekwon Noel breaks another record to win gold for Guyana Guyanese swimming star Raekwon Noel produced a tactical masterclass to secure his third gold medal of the Central American and Caribbean Games, setting a new Games record in the men's 200m freestyle. The Guyanese swimmer clocked a brilliant time of 1:47.08 from lane five to touch the wall first and cap an outstanding individual campaign in the Dominican Republic. In doing so, Noel lowered the previous Games record of 1:47.19, set by Mexico's Jorge Iga back in 2018. Noel’s victory in the 200m freestyle followed a high-stakes strategic decision to withdraw from the 100m backstroke earlier in the schedule. The gamble to scratch from the backstroke paid off handsomely, allowing the swimmer time to recover and focus his resources entirely on the freestyle event. Displaying supreme composure and race pace, Noel pulled clear in the closing stages to edge out former record holder Iga, who took silver in 1:47.95. Trinidad and Tobago's Nikoli Blackman claimed the bronze medal in 1:49.41. (VIDEO: Guyana Olympic Association)
