Taxi driver, 28, dies after colliding with truck at Goedverwagting Railway Embankment

A 28-year-old taxi driver died early Wednesday morning after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a truck along the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara. Dead is Emanuel Bernard Paul of Albertown, Georgetown. The News Room was informed that the accident occurred at about 01:45 hrs and involved motor car PAK 3491, which was being driven by Paul, and motor lorry GAH 1554, driven by 40-year-old Satrohan Budhoo of Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice. According to information gathered by the News Room, the lorry was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment Road when Paul’s car was travelling north from the Goedverwagting Access Road. The News Room was told that Paul allegedly failed to stop at the approach of the Railway Embankment and ended up into the path of the oncoming lorry. As a result, the force of the collision left Paul trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle. Paul sustained multiple injuries about his body. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned and Paul was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently transported to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. The lorry driver was taken into police custody and is assisting with the investigations.
