Police are investigating the discovery of an AK assault rifle and two magazines that were found abandoned in a drain at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, early Wednesday morning. According to the Guyana Police Force, the discovery was made at about 2:30 a.m. after ranks acted on information received and went to an empty plot of land in the area. Police said a search of the location led to the discovery of a bag inside a dry drain. Upon examining the bag, ranks found an AK assault rifle with its serial number filed off, along with two AK magazines. No ammunition was recovered at the scene. The firearm and magazines were taken into police custody and transported to the Turkeyen Police Station, where they have been lodged as investigations continue. No arrests have been made in connection with the discovery, and police say investigations are ongoing.
