HGP NIGHTLY NEWS- The Government of Guyana, through the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), has officially invited qualified marine salvage companies to submit Expressions of Interest to recover the sunken MV Barima. According to the notice, the vessel lies in approximately 13 to 15 metres of water, where strong currents and poor visibility are expected to complicate salvage operations. MARAD said contractors must have proven salvage experience and submit a technical plan that includes measures to preserve evidence for the ongoing Commission of Inquiry into the tragedy. Interested firms must also demonstrate their technical capacity, safety standards, environmental protections and ability to keep the vessel upright after recovery. Expressions of Interest must be submitted by August 14, 2026, after which shortlisted companies will be invited to submit detailed proposals.
