The Guyana Fire Service is probing a fire that ripped through three houses at Lamaha Street in Newtown, Kitty on Thursday night, claiming the life of 65-year-old Vernon James Duncan, who was recovering from a stroke. The Guyana Fire Service said it responded to a report of a fire at Lot 89 Lamaha Street, Newtown, Kitty on Thursday night and when firefighters arrived at the scene, three houses were on fire. Two of the houses were completely gutted, but fire fighters were able to save the third house from being completely flattened by the blaze. All three houses were wooden. The Fire Service explained that it was during its response that the firefighters learned that one of the occupants of the house did not make it out. The charred remains of the man were later discovered in his home. Today, Fire Inspector Rovin Thomas said investigations into the blaze are ongoing to ascertain the causes and circumstances surrounding the deadly fire. The Guyana Fire Service has extended its condolences to the relatives of the man who died in the blaze.
