A 60-year-old pensioner was robbed at gunpoint on Wednesday night after she was confronted by two men in an alleyway at Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt. Police said the robbery occurred around 20:45hrs, as the woman was walking home. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had just turned into an alleyway when she was approached by two males travelling on a pedal cycle. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun. The armed suspect allegedly pointed the firearm at the pensioner while his accomplice took away her black shoulder bag, which contained a Samsung Galaxy cellular phone, her National Identification Card and a bank card. The suspects then fled the area on the pedal cycle, heading north. Police said several persons have since been questioned and CCTV footage from cameras in the area is being reviewed as part of the investigation. No shots were fired and the victim was not injured. Investigations are ongoing.
